Home Staging has been my life for many years but in January I started a new hobby, that is totally outside my comfort zone.
Stand Up Comedy.
It’s been quite an adventure these past 4 weeks, with benefits I never imagined.
I’m suddenly walking through life looking for the comedy.
“Little” things like the medical lab that made me take a number and wait 30 minutes in an empty waiting room, have me looking for how I can make it into a funny story to share in my Stand Up routine.
Before, I would just get annoyed.
Looking for the comedy in everyday frustrations and disappointments is much healthier for my mindset.
Wondering what all this has to do with starting and growing a home staging business?
It’s all about getting past your fears. And about taking action and the delightful surprises you hadn’t anticipated.
I’m still really scared about my upcoming show. This is only a hobby, but I still have to get up in front of 200 people in two weeks.
So I ask myself, “What’s the worst that can happen?”
My biggest fears: forgetting my routine, blowing my lines, not being funny.
Ok, not so bad. Compared to actual problems and disasters. If I look beneath that, the overwhelming fear is really about being embarrassed.
You know that expression about dying from embarrassment?
It doesn’t actual kill you. Cancer might kill you, but not embarrassment.
It is true that “all glory comes from daring to begin.”
So it’s time we all get out of our own way and get on with living. With trying things we’re scared of.
Time to step boldly into this adventure called life. Cause we only get one shot at it.
