Back Stage with Staging Diva in December

By Debra Gould, The Staging Diva >>

Well, I don’t know about you but I’m about ready for a holiday. Finishing up my newest book, Home Stager’s Guide to Twitter: Building your home staging business one “tweet” at a time, has really used up my energy reserves.

I’m really excited about this new guide, especially now that one of my students read an advance copy. I’m still not finished all my edits but I wanted feedback from someone who had never used Twitter before to make sure I was being as clear as possible in my explanations.

Here’s what Jayne Steuart wrote after reading a preliminary copy: “The Home Stager’s Guide to Twitter is very comprehensive, easy to read and way too much fun to use! I consider myself to be techno-challenged, but this guide actually made me feel quite smart. I adore you for that! I am also excited about following other home stagers and re-designers whose business sense, success stories and informative tweets are inspiring to me.”

Some of you may not know that I have my own home staging business, Six Elements Inc., which is in its seventh year. By the third and fourth week of November I noticed a sudden surge in client requests for home staging consultations. I referred three of the local ones to members of the Staging Diva Directory of Home Stagers and also got hired to do a virtual staging in Alaska. That is only one of two states that doesn’t have any Staging Diva Graduates, so I couldn’t refer this project to anyone else. I also just finished a color consultation for an opera singer. It was really fun to work with someone who is so creative but in another field.

There is a definite seasonality to staging, so I expect it to quiet down now which leaves time for all the marketing and planning needed to get ready for the spring real estate market that begins in January with agents, and February with homeowners. The holiday season also poses special challenges for staging as you’ll see in this article on the Home Staging Business Report.

I welcome your opinions and/or new story ideas and hope you enjoy this month’s collection of posts here at the Staging Diva Dispatch.

Happy Holidays everyone!
