I hope you took note of my quote of the month which was posted last week. I often use it to help motivate people to stop procrastinating about building their business if they want to really change their lives.
Completing my 20th year working for myself, it has been obvious to me on a deep level that there are always reasons not to get started. The trick to being a successful entrepreneur is to carve out the time to focus on your goals, and more importantly, to take action on them.
My weakness has been that I spend too much of my energy on being an entrepreneur and not enough on enjoying the fruits of my labor. Last year I decided to change that and had my property landscaped so that in the warmer months I’d be more tempted to escape my office. For the first time in years I also started to travel. For some reason, I’d always found it easier to move to a new place than to plan a vacation there. I guess that’s one reason I became a home stager and not a travel agent!
We moved 6 times in 8 years, living in 3 different cities and on a small island where most neighbors had farm animals. Who had time to travel for fun? I was too busy scoping out the real estate; buying, decorating and flipping homes. Along the way I saw thousands of homes and realized that sellers make the same mistakes in most places, which is why they’re so often stuck with non-selling properties or getting less than they hoped. Wait until you read some of the “proof staging works” examples from Staging Diva Graduates in upcoming posts this month.
Take some time this summer to stop letting life’s distractions and inconveniences get in the way of creating the life you want. Or as Oprah said it this week, “put yourself on your priority list.” You’ll be glad you did!
I welcome your opinions and/or new story ideas and hope you enjoy this month’s posts on the Staging Diva Dispatch blog.
