Home staging a cure for seller fatigue

By Debra Gould, The Staging Diva >>

There’s no way around it. Living in a home that’s on the real estate market is awful, especially when it drags on month after month, and in some cases year after year.

It’s hard to remain optimistic about selling your home when you’ve been riding that roller coaster of showings/no showings. Gradually the home looks worse and worse. After all, how long can a person keep up appearances when you have to go about daily life?

And the worse the home looks, the less interest there is from potential buyers. It becomes a vicious cycle with the asking price dropping and dropping. Eventually the seller gives up, or sells for way less than they feel their home is worth.

Such was the case for a client of Staging Diva Graduate Fabia MacNair of Styling Spaces, who accepted an offer for $250,000 just to get out from under her house and end the pressures that come with a life “on hold”.

Luckily for this home seller, the deal fell through.

What looked liked like devastating news turned out to be an $80,000 gift because after Fabia stepped in and staged the house at a cost of $6,000, at the next open house, the client sold for $330,000. The seller rightly observed, “I’d have to work two years to make profits like that.”

Imagine how exciting it is to make a difference like that in someone’s life? Imagine how satisfying it is to use your natural creative talent to work such magic?

That’s why I love staging and I know it’s the same for others. No matter how many times you do this, it does feel like magic because of the incredible results we can get.

Awhile back I wrote about how successful stagers aren’t “lucky”, they work for their achievements. Fabia commented on the story rightly pointing out that luck is when preparation meets opportunity and by sharing a quote from Brian Tracy: “I’ve found luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often.”

Fabia also said, “Thanks Debra for all the great advice and preparation from your Staging Diva home staging courses. After two years, I have one busy business.”
