Plant the seeds and tend the fields for business growth

By Debra Gould, The Staging Diva >>

Ok, we’re not farmers but I hope you get my point. If you’re a home stager, or an entrepreneur of any kind, your number one job is taking action to grow your business.

Marketing can be a special challenge when you’re already busy with projects, but unless you’re always cultivating future sales, your work eventually dries up.

That’s why I love the Internet so much. I don’t have to be running around meeting people every week, or placing expensive ads because my website is marketing my business 24/7. As long as I make sure I can be found by people who are actively looking for a home stager in my area, I’ll always have clients! The best part is they are coming to me with a need, rather than me reaching out to them trying to convince them they need me.

To draw upon another metaphor, if you were single and out at a party, would you rather go up to that attractive “stranger” and introduce yourself, or would you prefer he or she come over to meet you? Or, even better would you rather someone you know and trust bring them over and say, “I’d like to introduce you to . . . ”

Marketing is what makes that happen and it’s what takes you from “invisible home stager” to one who is known and sought after.

Staging Diva Graduate Patricia Ebrahimi of Show Smart (MD), shares an interesting story of how one project leads to another after you’ve been in business for awhile and people start to remember your name, or your company name:

“One of my earliest projects was a $300 partial staging job on a smallish home in a not-so-wonderful part of town. The staging was memorable and it eventually sold for the fourth realtor. Two years later I get a call from the second realtor, looking for a stager to refer to another realtor in her office. Noticing my name, she asks, ‘Did you stage an old house in on Walker Ave some time ago?’ Long story short, I just finished an $8,000 staging project on a luxury town house for her office!”
