While listening to a recent talk by author Neil Pasricha, I started thinking about all the things I love about being a home stager— the moments that make me say “Wow!” I’ve included some of my own WOW Moments here:
- Re-rolling that final bath towel beside the Jacuzzi to complete a stack of 3 and realizing that it FINALLY looks like it does in the magazines.
- Trying not to giggle while a camera man and lighting guy from HGTV huddle together in the bathtub shooting my staging advice for The Decorating Adventures of Ambrose Price.
- Walking into my client’s transformed home after the painter has finished removing the old wallpaper, covering the ugly wood paneling, and painting all the colors I chose for the house.
- Savoring those 10 minutes after I’ve finished staging a house and taking in the “model home” I’ve created simply from my own creative vision and hard work.

Fellow home stagers have been adding to the list of WOW moments in home staging:
“When my very first clients did the staging themselves and when I saw the listing photos on MLS they incorporated all of the suggestions that I had given them during the consultation, including paint colors. This was just another confirmation that I had made the right decision to start this business.” (Cheryl Ward, Ivy Home Staging, North Bay)
“Getting a call from the buyer of a home I staged and her hiring me to stage her condo. It sold first day on the market.” (Pat McArthur, Home Definition, Toronto)
“Being contacted by the #4 real estate agent in New York City (#17 nationwide) telling me he saw one of my stagings and loved it and wanted a staging proposal on his new exclusive listing.” (Donna Dazzo, Designed To Appeal, New York)
“When a client calls and expresses her excitment that her house sold in 10 days to the first person who looked at it and for a higher price. The buyer liked the layout and the design so much that she wanted all the furniture and art in the living room and dining room. This worked well for my client because she was moving to a different state.” (Katie Mines, Sweet Villa Home Staging, Omaha)
“Closing out my books for the year and realizing that since I started my business over 3 years ago, I have tripled my revenue every year.” (Jodi Whalen, Pear Tree Home Designs, LLC, New Jersey)
“It’s the little things, like when I return to a home and the owners have done everything I’ve asked, when I get a hug at the end of a consultation, when a $5 piece of molding makes a book case look like custom furniture, when an agent hires me for a home staging consultation and at the end hires me to help them decorate their own home. This business is a constant WOW. I am so glad I got over my initial fear, broke out of my comfort zone, and took a chance starting this business. It’s one of the best decisions I have ever made.” (Susan Atwell, Atwell Staged Home, New York)
